The spectacular Maldives is a massive collection of 1192 different islands that lie just off the coast of India in the Indian Ocean.
The Maldives was largely unknown to many people during the 1970s but then quickly became one of the world’s most expensive island holiday destinations. Therefore these islands only attracted the wealthy and this is largely due to the fact that world-class, luxurious resorts were the only available accommodation for tourists.
Luckily this has changed during the last few years because of the ever-increasing number of affordable guesthouses that have been popping up – which now allows for regular tourists to visit and explore this Indian Ocean paradise. It’s now a popular honeymoon, family and surfing destination and has some of the world’s best reefs, waves, and white sandy beaches. 200 of the islands are inhabited while another 80 has been specifically allocated to tourists which means that you have an enormous number of islands to choose from.
