The southern coast has black sand beaches caused by volcanic activity and steep cliffs which drop straight into the ocean while the northern coastline has become very badly eroded. Inland, you will a number of rivers, forests, mountains and even swamps – including Kingston and various other towns and villages.

Is Jamaica Safe For Tourists?
If everything up to this point sounded too good to be true, then it probably is because Jamaica has a serious crime problem. Rampant poverty, drug use and gang activity has made the island a fairly unsafe tourist destination as many locals as well as tourists become victims of rape, murder, assault and theft. Find out more about how safe/unsafe Jamaica is here.
When To Go
The island is very tropical so expect warm weather all year round. There are also cooler regions found on the island’s higher elevated interior. Jamaica also experiences regular hurricanes just like most of the other places in the Caribbean and these hurricanes are usually very destructive and cause a considerable amount of damage so its best to avoid visiting here during the hurricane season.
