The Seychelles has many things going for it but one of the most appealing things about this Indian Ocean paradise is its remoteness. And it’s because of its remoteness that its home to an incredible range of fauna and flora that cannot be found anywhere else on earth. While the stunning beaches of the Seychelles are by far the most appealing thing to tourists, one should not overlook or ignore the various other things available to people.
For example, there’s a place called Aldabra which is home to nearly 200 000 tortoises and nearby you will find some of the most well preserved and most pristine coral reefs on the planet – all yours to explore via snorkeling and scuba diving. There are many tropical forests that have hiking trails which leads up relatively easy to climb mountains where once you reached the top you will be able to view some of the best views you will ever see. Those who visit the Seychelles will also be able to sample a strange fruit called the coco de mer. It belongs to the coconut family and happens to be the worlds largest fruit.
Mahe Island is the largest and most popular of the three main Seychelles Islands. Let’s say for example, you are fortunate enough to spend a 2 week holiday on Mahe Island – you still wouldn’t have enough time to visit and explore each of the beaches on the island. Let alone many of the activities that are available for tourists either. Mahe Island with its spectacular views, abundance of beaches and nearby islands, incredible mountain trails, scuba diving spots and much much more. Praslin Island is the second largest of the three main islands but surprisingly there aren’t that many inhabitants on the island. It’s known for its picturesque forest covered hills and breathtaking white sandy beaches. As a matter of fact, many of the beaches on Praslin are frequently featured as a top island destination in numerous international publications. A lot of tourists who visit the Seychelles often base themselves on Praslin Island – not only because of its beauty – but also because it’s a great place to be if you are planning on doing some island hopping since there are many other islands situated nearby. Other attractions on Praslin includes a world class golf course, some of the best beaches in the world, incredible diving sites and much more.
La Digue is the smallest and most laid back of the three islands. It has no airport so the only way of getting here is by boat but the trip to La Digue is well worth it because it has tranquility and some of the best beaches in the Seychelles. Many of those who visit the Seychelles usually come to La Digue island for a daytrip from one of the other two islands but in order to truly experience this tranquil little island one should stay for at least 2 or 3 days.
The Seychelles is notorious for being very hot and humid. The beaches are usually your best bet to stay cool because of the constant cool breeze. The hottest time of year to visit the Seychelles is between November and March while the rest of the year is slightly cooler.
