The island nation of Jamaica sits south from Cuba in the Caribbean and is home to almost 3 million people.

This English speaking nation is regarded as being one of the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean. It’s famous for its raggae music, culture, history and beauty. The island is found close to Puerto Rico and Cuba and is home to one of the top 10 largest natural harbors in the world while its capital city, Kingston, is the biggest English speaking city in the Caribbean. The west coast of Jamaica is the most popular tourist region since it holds the islands most beautiful and most popular white sandy beaches. The southern coast has black sand beaches caused by volcanic activity and steep cliffs which drop straight into the ocean while the northern coastline has become very badly eroded. Inland, you will a number of rivers, forests, mountains and even swamps – including Kingston and various other towns and villages.

Things to do in Jamaica

Visit the Bob Marley Museum:

No visit to Jamaica would be complete without visiting the Bob Marley Museum. The museum – which was Bob Marley’s home and studio is situated in Kingston at 65 Hope Road. It’s open 6 days a week, Monday to Saturday and you can expect to pay an entrance fee of under $4 per person. There are usually lower fee’s for children under the age of 12. When done, be sure to visit the nearby Bob’s Cafe where Bob Marley himself used to eat and where you can enjoy one of Bob Marley’s favorite foods – the irie stew.

Dunns River Falls

The Dunn’s River Falls has a beautiful waterfall, various rivers and a very renowned resort – the Ocho Riocs. The region has become one of the most visited spots in Jamaica as it provides lots of outdoor activities and entertainment for the whole family. It’s situated close to the coast and has an abundance of tropical plants such as the indigenous breadfruit tree, various types of palm trees and even some of the most beautiful orchids you have ever seen.

Jamaica is bigger than most of the other islands in the Caribbean so it has a longer coastline. Some of the best white sandy beaches are located along the west coast in regions such as Negril and Montego Bay. Be sure to check out Treasure Beach as well as Port Antonio. These beaches are great places to soak up the sun or even go swimming. Then there are also the enormous range of water activities and beach bars that goes along with it.

When To Go:

Jamaica is very tropical so expect warm weather all year round. There are also cooler regions found on the islands higher elevated interior. Jamaica also experiences regular hurricanes just like most of the other places in the Caribbean and these hurricanes are usually very destructive and causes a considerable amount of damage so its best to avoid visiting here during the hurricane season.
